The Future of Transportation

We've just received a leaflet through the door about sert, which stands for "South Essex Rapid Transit". You may be forgiven for thinking it's people of Basildon who've eaten too many of those "friendly bacteria".

But actually it's a a tram service, but without the tracks. Or, if you like, a bus service running (partly) on dedicated roads. Sounds a good idea, until they break down - then they are presumably know as a "dead sert".

If I've whetted your appetite for sert, there's a video about it on their web site. Go to http://www.sert.org.uk/video.asp

  1. Whetted your appetite you certainly have,When you consider the future plans for the area the Thames Corridor where all available Green space will be taken up by either houses or Offices/bussiness and where London the city that never sleeps will be extended to the sleepy back streets of Shoeburyness, then the sooner the rapid transport system gets created in my view the better, the Jobs that will be created setting this system up building the rapid transit lanes together with the rapid transit vehicles and getting it up and running 24/7 will only go to encourage big firms bussineses to our area.together with the likes of London Transport extending their lines from Upminster to Laindon and Shoeburyness.Just look at the Docklands the railway went in first and then the area just expanded from there and Jobs, housing and leisure areas just expanded from that.
I have one thing to say... "Bring it on" lets have a 24/7 rapid transport system up and running real soon.reasonably priced (ie cheaper than car parks) so people will want to use it and leave there cars at home. Ginge :-)

  2. Thanks Ginge! I went to the advertised exhibition at the Community Centre ... except it wasn't there! Nobody knew why! Hopefully the buses, when they get running will turn up, unlike the exhibition!
